JOY | FOR | ALL
BY KYAH DUBAY (WITH THE HELP OF SO MANY OF YOU)
The idea, design, and production of these cards has grown from a hobby to a passion project. The Joy For All collection of greeting cards focuses on inclusivity and representation on every occasion. The greeting card industry has a historically narrow view of what the "default" person/relationship/milestone looks like. I want everyone to feel valued and know they are worth celebrating.
Everything about the cards is done with purpose, right down to the amount of words I place on the inside. (I love a handwritten note, and a blank inside gives even those of few words the opportunity to send well wishes of their own hand.)
The most important part of this project was to hear the voices of those who are traditionally underrepresented in this space. After surveying around 50 people (that's when suggestions became repetitive) of various identities and backgrounds, I learned about even more blind spots in the greeting card aisle than I had realized. Of that group, many volunteered to review the final designs. It's important to me to make sure the people being represented have a final say in the product.
Another question on the survey asked people what nonprofits they would like to see benefit from the sales of these cards. I'm excited to say that each month, part of the sales of select cards will go toward one of the suggested nonprofit organizations. Some of these STELLAR groups include:
The Trevor Project
CASA for Children
